Cook Strait, on the Ferry
You can fly from between the two Islands, and it's certainly quicker, but then you'd miss the scenery
and the journey. The 92km voyage between Picton and Wellington takes three hours and is possibly the
most scenic ferry trip in the world.
The Interislander Ferry takes you through the Malborough Sounds, across Cook Strait, and into
Wellington Harbour. Cook Strait can be somewhat rough, so you'll want to gaze over the side a lot,
and look thankfully at the lifeboat pods.
