Akaroa New Zealand
While in Christchurch a day trip to Akaroa is quite a fun thing to do.
About one and a half hours drive from Christchurch, Akaroa is a small,
(uncommonly in New Zealand) French originated town, situated within one of the many bays of
Banks Peninsula. Here the scenery is brilliant, and the short drive is
definitely worth it. One of the main attractions in Akaroa is a ferry that
heads out towards the mouth of the bay, into the Pacific Ocean. On most occasions,
a pod of bottle-nosed dolphins will swim along side the boat. Other wildlife can be
viewed from here also, such as the blue penguins that can be scattered along the
shoreline.
Here is a link to New Zealand on the Web's very own
slide show of Akaroa.
