With stunning scenery, friendly service, free big screen movies and a choice of up to four return sailings a day (except Christmas Day) between Wellington and Picton - there's no better way for you and your vehicle to cross Cook Strait.
The Journey The journey from New Zealand's North to South Island (or vice versa) takes you through what is undoubtedly some of the world's most stunning scenery. Crossing time is 3 hours 20 minutes.
Operating two ships, each with a capacity for four hundred passengers plus vehicles, the fleet also includes the newest, most sustainable vessel on Cook Strait the Straitsman. Both ships are equipped with state-of-the-art design and safety features, alongside exceptional passenger comfort.
Onboard Services
Including free movies, private cabins, comfortable lounges, café style food and spacious work stations, you'll enjoy the best of Kiwi hospitality while you cross the Strait. Or catch your breath, soaking up the sun and New Zealand's stunning scenery, from one of our outside decks.
If you really want to treat yourself, the Straitsman has private cabins available for hire. A choice of double berth or four berth family cabins come complete with linen, towels and their own ensuite including a hot shower. The Straitsman also offers wheelchair accessible cabins featuring height adjustable beds and easy access ensuites.
If you're travelling with a vehicle, you need to be there at least an hour before departure and should check in at the vehicle booth (not inside the terminal). As you won't have access to your vehicle during sailing, you should ensure that you have everything you need for your trip in your hand luggage. Foot passengers should check-in at least 45 minutes before they set sail inside the terminal.
