Spirit of the River Jet is the closest Qualmarked Visitor Endorsed Activity to Wanganui City.

We are proud of this wonderful part of Aotearoa-New Zealand, and it is our privilege to be able to share our heritage with you. Spirit of the River Jet welcomes you as visitors and you will leave as friends with warm memories of our Whanganui River's wonderful scenic beauty and history.

Spirit of the River Jet has a jetboating trip with Canoe option leaving daily from Brent and Claire's family Marae, just 20 minutes drive from Wanganui. This trip is a great way to enjoy the Awa (river), with it's scenic beauty, history and its many stories. On this trip we visit an organic Bed and Breakfast property, The Flying Fox, and enjoy organic coffee and muffins on their verandah - overlooking the Whanganui River. A magical spot.

Another really popular tour is our exclusive 6 hour (4 hour option available) Bridge to Nowhere Discovery Tour, which leaves from Pipiriki. We have many stops at the historical and cultural points of interest along the way. We bring along tea, organic plunge coffee and outstanding homebaking for morning tea. For an informative trip, a good look at the Whanganui River 's unique and breathtaking scenery, and lots of fun and laughter, come with us. You'll love it.

We can also tailor trips to your requirements - if you have limited time, but would like to see at least a snippet of the Whanganui River, we can take you out for an hour to enjoy the solitude and scenery. Perhaps you would like to have a picnic on the riverbank. We'll find a lovely spot to boil the billy. Just let us know, and we will come up with a little treat.

Brent - I am Tangata Whenua of the Whanganui River, a direct descendant of the early Maori who made their home on the Whanganui River 1000 years ago. I have over 20 years experience driving Jet Boats on the Whanganui River, including many spent working with my late father, Ken Firmin. I will share stories with you, passed through the generations of my family, as well as those of European settlers, and the steamboats that once navigated these waters.

Claire - I grew up in a family of 9 in the Orautoha valley on the banks of the Manganui O Te Ao, 20 minutes from Raetihi, and rode horses every day to the local school. After school and holidays were spent working with my beloved dogs and horses on the family farm. I have a special affinity with the area, and have spent much time in and around the Mangapurua and surrounding areas, usually on horseback.

Together we love to host our visitors to a great time on the Whanganui River - fantastic scenery, great food, good fun, and everlasting memories. There is so much of the Whanganui River that is only accessible by water, and our jet boat is the way to do it! Have a great day out in a small group.
