Stuart Landsborough’s Puzzling World in Wanaka,is a world unique attraction specialising in puzzling eccentricity. For over 35 years this remarkable business has entertained and amazed visitors of all ages, attracted to this beautiful part of the world. Offering the world's first "modern-styled" Great Maze, incredible Illusion Rooms, a Puzzle Centre/Café, large Gift Shop and eccentric architecture and oddities, we are possibly the most photographed attraction in New Zealand.
Located in the heart of the breathtaking Southern Lakes region of the South Island of New Zealand, Puzzling World is set amongst 7 acres of rolling lawns, trees and gardens at the entrance to Wanaka, 2kms from the lakefront.
Impossible to miss from the Main Highway, Puzzling World enjoys a position close to the main route north to Christchurch, west to the West Coast and highway south to Queenstown.
Puzzling World is a truly mind bending experience - you really won't believe your eyes! It is great fun for all ages and is suitable for all budgets. Puzzling World developed the world's first 3-D Maze and now has four illusions rooms, many being world firsts and all are world best.
Hologram Hall
The Illusion Rooms of Stuart Landsborough's Puzzling World have to be seen to be believed. Each room is an illusion in its own right. On entering you pass through the Hologram Hall. As there is nothing quite like this in the world we can only assure you that you will find our collection of amazing 3-D holograms fascinating!
Hall of Following Faces
Move on into the Hall of Following Faces illusion room where 168 giant models of famous faces seem to turn and follow you around the room. We invented this illusion room to offer our visitors a world unique encounter of being followed left and right, up and down by some very illustrious company.
Ames Room
Carry on into the Ames Forced Perspective Room. The technique of this illusion was used in The Lord of the Rings film to create tall people and little people. The shape of this room is totally distorted although when viewed from outside through a window, the room looks perfectly normal. Prepare to be amazed!
Tilted House
Enter the Tilted House. The room is tilted at an angle of fifteen degrees. All the displays inside are normal yet when you enter the room the illusion is so strong that your brain is convinced the room cannot be sloping. The brain straightens up the room at the expense of the displays that seem to hang at impossible angles.
The Great Maze
We developed the first of the world's modern-style mazes. Designed to be a fascinating and enjoyable puzzle. 1.5km of passages - allow 30 minutes to one hour to achieve. Emergency doors for those with limited time, patience or energy! Adults, this maze is a lot of fun. It is designed to intrigue people of ALL ages.
Enter the wonderful Puzzling Café. There is nothing like it anywhere else in the world. There are tables of puzzling things to try while enjoying light refreshments. Our staff are on hand to help with and demonstrate the puzzles. Don't forget to look up - part of the ceiling is like a giant Kaleidoscope!
We also have a shop where you can purchase a wide range of classic and world famous puzzles, a selection of unique jigsaws and brain teasing games, and T-shirts and souvenirs of your visit to Puzzling World.
