Our trips are tailored to suit your needs, all adventures include comprehensive instruction, equipment, awe-inspiring scenery, crystal-clear water, interesting facts about local History, Flora and Fauna plus a few surprises along the way. Float and escape or charge in and out of eddies, surf waves and even kickflip a kayak! An intrepid experience that's truly unforgettable.

Guided Trips

Alpine Kayak Guides offer a range of white water kayaking trips on Grade 2 rivers in the Wanaka region. We supply all the necessary equipment (including closed deck or sit on top kayaks) and instruction from qualified guides for an enjoyable day of learning and adventure.

Clutha Classic

Great value for money. Suitable for first-timers and intermediate paddlers. Take in the awesome views, run some thrilling Grade 2 rapids, Surf waves and even learn to kickflip a kayak! Great for those with only a limited time but still want to feel the thrill kayaking. An ideal way to escape the crowds.

Duration: 4 1/2 hours approx.

Big Day Out

This trip offers 23 Km of mountain views and crystal clear rivers. Surf waves, break in and out of eddies, run some exciting rapids and much more. Ideal for the intrepid traveller wanting more than quick thrills.

We offer a selection of rivers for the full day adventure, The Clutha River is a high volume, fast paced river that is a short drive from town so a lot more activity time.

The Matukituki River is a low-medium volume river that is ideal for those wanting to take a relaxed approach to the day. Settled in the Mt Aspiring National Park the ever-changing scenery is breath taking to say the least.

The Makarora River also in Mt Aspiring National Park, it is graded 2+ and medium volume river ideal for those who want a challenge! This river runs through native, sub-alpine forest and offers a lot of features to play in and on.

Duration: 8-9 hrs approx.

The Grandview family package

We start at the stunning Lake Wanaka outlet and travel 13kms downstream to the Poplars. This stretch is mostly gentle winding, mainly flat river. Our sit on top kayaks provide a stable platform for everyone. 1 person per single kayak. Water confidence essential.
