After leaving the Port we take in the sights of Mount Maunganui with a drive along one of the best beaches in New Zealand. See the abundant of coffee shops, cafes, and breath-taking scenery, including the famous 'Mount' for which this area is named. After leaving the coastline, we head into the lush countryside, and our to your way to Rotorua, passing lakes and forests, and seeing the first hint of the geothermal area you are heading to.
Enter a strange and unusual landscape with the aroma of sulphur and sights of steam vents exiting the earth at every available crevice. You will visit Rotorua and its Whakarewarewa Valley. Here you can witness The prince of wales Feathers geyser and The Pohutu Geyser (the biggest Geyser in the southern hemisphere). This valley is steeped in history, traditions and cultures that span hundreds of years the people of this village have lived surrounded by geothermal activity (geysers, steam vents and mud pools) which they utilize in their everyday life for cooking, bathing and heating. Experience one of Rotorua's leading maori cultural performance groups as they serenade you with a song and dance including the world famous Haka. Upon leaving the geothermal area we make our way to lunch. Sit back and enjoy a 2 course lunch with unlimited teas and coffee.
Next pull on your riding helmet and head into the riding arena so your guide can select the horse or pony suited to your riding experience. Let our experienced guides take you on a magical Rotorua Horse Trek up the magnificent Mt Ngongotaha. Our horse trails cross rolling farmland and offer spectacular views overlooking Lake Rotorua, the city and beyond. Our trails also take in some magnificent New Zealand native bush, bustling with birds and animals. Explore working farmland on horseback at a slow and steady pace, and enjoy sweeping views over New Zealand’s pretty countryside. Climb further up the mountain, through beautiful tree-lined native bush, and gaze out over shimmering Lake Rotorua in the distance. Stop along the way for photographs and listen as your guide sheds light on the region’s rich history. When your trek comes to an end, head down through the paddocks to base at the bottom of the mountain, say goodbye to your horse to conclude your tour.
Total beginners are given a brief introduction on how to ride and be at one with your horse, so that you are confident during your trek.
After a memorable day out we finish with a local tour of Rotorua taking in the wonderful sights before heading back to the ship to wish you Bon Voyage.
