River Valley Rafting can take you on the White Water adventure of a lifetime or a scenic cruise down the Rangitikei River which flows through beautiful papa, canyons, past crystal clear pools, sparkling grade 2 rapids, all bordered by beautiful native New Zealand forest and flood plains.
White water rafting on the Rangitikei River on New Zealand's North Island is as good as New Zealand rafting gets.
The Rangitikei River is a wild, remote, free-flowing river with ample Grade (or Class) 4 and Grade 5 white water.
Commercial white water rafting trips started happening in the early 1980s, with River Valley running it's first white water rafting trips in 1982. Brian Megaw, your host at River Valley Lodge, started guiding in 1986.
This is a world class white water rafting run with famous rapids such as Max's Drop, Fulcrum and Foamy. In fact there are 10 major Grade 4-5 rapids on this 12 km run, plus numerous smaller rapids.
'River Valley stands out in my memory as the best white water rafting experience of my life."
The Scenic Raft trip is especially suitable for families, and those people wanting a more relaxed interaction with the river, than offered on our Grade 5 trips. The trip takes about 3 1/2 hours on river, with a picnic lunch stopover on the river bank. If weather conditions and time permit, then we can take a hike up a side canyon to view the Ohutu Falls, the most reliable of the major waterfalls that feed the river.
This canyon is one of the most beautiful sections of the Rangitikei River. Allow a full day. Trip meets at, and departs from River Valley Lodge. Scenic/Eco River trips are a seasonal adevnture. The season starts in October and finishes in April.
River Valley Stables offers Horse treks from two hours to full day over beautiful Rangitikei Hill Country.
Our relationship with our local Maori Iwi allows us to bring you guided hikes on the Sacred Mountain, Aorangi. Both walk in/walk out and helihike options are available.
