A comprehensive eight day tour of the South Island travelling with InterCity Coachlines. Four national parks, Mt Cook, Queenstown, Dunedin heritage tour, yellow-eyed penguins and royal albatross colonies, cruise of Milford Sound, guided walk on a glacier, West Coast rainforests and the world renowned TranzAlpine scenic railway.
Day 1 Christchurch - Mount Cook - Dunedin
Depart Newmans coach terminal and travel southwest to Mount Cook village. At Mount Cook join Citibus Limited who will take you through to Dunedin – The Edinburgh of the South where you will arrive at 7.30pm.
Day 2 Otago Peninsula
Today the choice is yours. Either:
1: Take the Monarch Wildlife Cruise around Taiaroa Heads to view the royal albatross followed by a guided land tour to view yellow-eyed penguins at Penguin Place. The tour will include a cruise along Otago Harbour in one direction and a scenic coach journey in the other direction.

2: Depart on a Dunedin Heritage tour by double decker bus. See well known landmarks established by the early Scottish settlers. Travel with Citibus out onto the Otago Peninsular and visit the Albatross Centre followed by a Nature's Wonders Wildlife Safari. Here you’ll board an eight wheeler all terrain vehicle for an exhilarating ride taking in the spectacular scenery and authentic farm life as you descend down to Penguin Beach. Visit colonies of yellow eyed and little blue penguins along with NZ fur seals. Lookout hides balance your viewing experience with privacy for the wildlife to ensure that you are seeing them going about their normal daily lives.
Day 3 Dunedin - Te Anau
Morning at leisure in Dunedin. In the afternoon board the InterCity coach for your journey through the lush pastures of Otago and Southland to the lakeside resort of Te Anau.
Day 4 Te Anau - Milford - Queenstown
Regarded as one of the World’s most scenic journeys into Fiordland National Park – a world heritage area. Enjoy a one and a half hour cruise of Milford Sound viewing spectacular waterfalls and famous Mitre Peak.
Day 5 Free Day in Queenstown
A free day for you to enjoy this fabulous resort. We have included the Skyline Gondola in your tour.
Day 6 Queenstown - Franz Josef
Leaving Queenstown with Newmans Coach Lines travel to the West Coast passing through Cromwell, Wanaka and Hawea before climbing over the Haast Pass into the Westland National Park.
Day 7 Full Day at Franz Josef
Today we have included a short sightseeing tour with Glacier Valley Eco Tours. You will be taken by shuttle bus to the Franz Josef Glacier viewing point. Visitors can view the glacier after a short 10 minute walk.
Day 8 Franz Josef - Christchurch
Continue north through lush rainforest and spectacular scenery to Greymouth to board the famous TranzAlpine Train recognized as one of the top six rail journeys in the world.
