Day 1 Christchurch - Glaciers
Leaving Christchurch city on The TranzAlpine train, we cross the Canterbury Plains and into the Arthur's Pass National Park. From Arthur's Pass our journey is via an 8.5 km long rail tunnel that has been cut through the heart of the Southern Alps. Once on the West Coast we follow a narrow coastal strip of beech forest with spectacular mountain back- drops south to the glaciers for two nights stay.
Day 2 Full Day at Franz Josef Glacier
Today we have included a short sightseeing tour with Glacier Valley Eco Tours. You will be taken by shuttle bus to the Franz Josef Glacier viewing point. Visitors can view the glacier after a short 10 minute walk.
Day 3 Glaciers-Queenstown
Dense rain forests and the abode of the rare and graceful Kotuku (white heron) contrast with rugged coastal vistas as we travel with Intercity Coachlines deeper into South Westland. The Haast River guides us inland to the Gates of Haast and then over the Pass to Lakes Wanaka and Hawea. Wanaka, Cromwell and the rugged Kawarau Gorge lead us into Queenstown.
Day 4 At Queenstown
A full day for you to enjoy this fabulous resort - we have included the Skyline Gondola in your tour. There are dozens of optional activities as well including: thrilling jetboating on the rivers, white water rafting, helicopter rides, AJ Hackett's world famous bungy jumping, cruises on the lake and spectacular walking trails.The list is endless with something for everyone.
Day 5 Queenstown-Milford-Te Anau
Our journey today with Newmans Coach Lines traces the shore of Lake Wakatipu to Kingston, then across the rich farming country to Te Anau and the beautiful Eglinton and Hollyford Valleys, the Homer Tunnel and the awesome Cleddau Canyon. A cruise on magnificent Milford Sound is included in the fare. Return to Te Anau for tonight's stay.
Day 6 Te Anau-Dunedin
High country tussock soon gives way to the lush pastures of Southland and South Otago as you travel through Gore and Balclutha to your accommodation at Dunedin. This afternoon depart on a Dunedin Heritage tour by double-decker bus. See the well known landmarks established by the early scotish settlers.
Day 7 Dunedin-Christchurch
You travel by Intercity coach through the undulating hill country of Otago to the cities of Oamaru and Timaru. Leaving Timaru we enter the patchwork of the Canterbury Plains, the largest plain in New Zealand arriving in the garden city of Christchurch at 6.45pm.
