Four Winds is a niche tour company catering for small groups of up to four people and specialising in tailoring the trip to the groups' specific interests - they may be day trips or overnight according to individual needs.
The company owns a comfortable 4WD vehicle giving the capability to safely negotiate rough, back country roads, taking tourists to places that are off the usual routes.
About Us
Our purpose is to show you the 'real New Zealand' in comfort! Owner/operators Ian & Hilary Ladds have a passion for the outdoors and for the beautiful country of New Zealand, especially the South Island and enjoy sharing their enthusiasm with others.
Ian has a lifetime's experience in geology and is very active locally among the 'Rockhounds' of the Nelson area - hence our 'specialty' but also has extensive knowledge of the scenic and historical areas of our region and beyond. He has been involved on the fringe of the tourism industry part time for a number of years and has decided the time has come to work for himself and to do what he enjoys most - getting out into the 'outdoors'.
Our Tours
We provide exclusive and individualised tours for up to four people, from beautiful day tours to relaxing overnighters. Take a spectacular scenic or historical tour or take advantage of our specialty knowledge of local geology and geography. Whatever piques your interest, we will tailor the trip to suit you.

Starting in Nelson, we can take you to Golden Bay, the wonderful West Coast of the South Island, and beyond. We take you off the beaten track to see the hidden corners of the country, all in our comfortable 4WD vehicle guaranteed to take you safely over the roughest roads.
Tariffs are based on vehicle and driver costs for the day. This includes lunch and morning and afternoon tea for a basic day trip and is a standard price whether there is one passenger or four. Extras and overnight tours will obviously have extra costs which will be discussed individually with customers as the need arises and before a firm booking is made.
