A wonderful four day trip Downunder. Travel from Christchurch to New Zealand's highest mountain, Mount Cook, then on to Queenstown. Includes a full day excursion to the world famous Fiordland National Park and half hour cruise of Milford Sound. A full day at your leisure in Queenstown and visit the historic goldfields area of Central Otago and the 'Edinburgh of the South', Dunedin. Day 1 Christchurch - Mount Cook - Queenstown Travel south with Newmans Coach Lines and then west across the Canterbury Plains to the foothills of the Southern Alps. At Lake Tekapo, the first of two glacial lakes we will see today, time is available to photograph the beautiful Church of the Good Shepherd overlooking the lake. After lunch (not included) at Mount Cook, take one of the many alpine walks in the area. Our afternoon journey to Queenstown passes by the hydro-electric power schemes of the MacKenzie Country and the stone fruit growing region of Cromwell. Day 2 Full Day Excursion to Milford Sound A coach journey with Newmans Coach Lines to one of the world's greatest natural wonders - the Fiordland National Park - a world heritage area. A vast remote wilderness with snow capped mountains, glacial lakes and valleys, fiords, waterfalls and dense forests. Travel to Te Anau and on to the forested Eglinton Valley, through the Homer Tunnel and out into breath-taking Milford Sound. Enjoy a one and a half hour cruise of Milford Sound viewing the spectacular waterfalls and famous Mitre Peak. An optional scenic flight may be taken for the return journey to Queenstown (arranged by the coach driver on the day). Day 3 In Queenstown A full day at leisure for you to enjoy this exciting year round holiday resort. There are many optional activities - jetboating, white water rafting, bungy jumping, lake cruise, wine tasting, golf, fishing, tramping, something for everyone. Day 4 Queenstown - Christchurch via Dunedin Travel by InterCity Coachlines following the snow-fed Clutha River through the towns of Cromwell and Alexandra westward to the Pacific coastline and then north to Dunedin. The days journey follows part of the Otago goldfields trail and passes by several of the large hydro dams in the region. From Dunedin we head north following the Pacific coast through the cities of Oamaru and Timaru to the garden city of Christchurch.
