Walking Tour
- Fiordland
|
|
| Price: | Starting from NZ $795 per person |
Fiordland Coast Walks offer multi-night guided walks along New Zealand's longest stretch of walkable wilderness coastline. This is one of our most remote and forgotten areas. The 100 kilometres of coastal walks are mostly accessed by helicopter and lie entirely within the Fiordland National Park and World Heritage Area, Te Wahipounamu.
Its isolation and difficulty of access has meant that the coastline's raw and wild beauty has remained unchanged since pre-human times, it's like no other place. The pounding surf and quiet coves, empty sandy beaches and boulder-strewn shores, the meeting of marine and land environments, the silence and power, it will leave you spellbound.
The Walks
Fiordland Coast Walks has a selection of New Zealand's best coastal walks that range from 2 - 4 days in length. Features of our walks include:
- Scenic helicopter flights to and from the walks, either out of the world-famous Milford Sound or the West Coast location of Jackson Bay and Haast.
- Queenstown departure and return.
- Maximum 4 clients per guide.
- Maximum group size 7 people, including guides.
- You carry only your personal gear. We provide and transport the rest.
- Options exist to vary the walks to suit, such as additional days, alternative fixed wing plane, boat or foot access, faster or slower pace. Please enquire.
The Coast
The coastline sits on the Southwest corner of New Zealand's South Island between Milford Sound and Jackson Bay. It is the country's longest stretch of walkable wilderness coastline, remote and forgotten. There are a variety of land and seascapes; long sandy beaches with rolling surf backed by dunes and wetlands, fresh and free rivers, large and small, running into the sea with the rivermouths the congregation point for wildlife.
There are stretches of boulder strewn coast laced with pounamu (New Zealand greenstone) if you can spot it. There are places where gold prospectors have paused - rarely visited. There are beaches of light sand and blue waves and sweeping bays of gravel and stone sculpted to the ocean's curve. There are broad swathes of low tide rock pool and driftwood piled deep and high above, backed with lush and verdant coastal vegetation.
The ocean itself is spectacular. Deep sea canyons just offshore ensure a deep blue sea and sealife in abundance. The surf can at times be gigantic and awe-inspiring and at others calm and peaceful. It will be captivating and you will have the best seat in the house.
