The South Island of New Zealand has some of the southernmost vineyards in the world, with climatic conditions producing wines that are distinctive and unique. The Waipara Valley, is Canterbury's premier wine-growing region and approximately 45 minutes north of Christchurch. Travel with us and enjoy the beautiful scenery as you look forward to a day of delectable wine and stunning views.
Dicovery Travel is a Christchurch based tour operator, and our day tours tend to be small group tours. All tours include comfortable air-conditioned travel with a friendly and knowledgeable tour guide, offering you a very personalized service.
Waipara is one of the fastest growing wine producing regions in New Zealand, currently boasting over 80 vineyards and wineries covering more than 1,200 hectares of plantings. The region is an ideal cool-climate grape growing area, with Pinot Noir, Riesling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc dominating local plantings. Recent investment in the region by some of New Zealand's larger wine producers, including Montana Wines, mean that Waipara is set to become a major player in the New Zealand wine industry.
Tour Intinerary
Our Waipara Tour will take you to four award-winning wineries, such as Pegasus Bay, Mud House, Waipara Springs, Torlesse, Mt Cass, Muddy Water, Danny Schuster or Sherwoods. (all wineries subject to availability). You will be able taste the wine, view the vineyards and, if you wish, buy some wine.
On our wine trail we are usually able to show you where the wine is made and you are often able to meet the winemakers. A lunch platter at one of the wineries is also included.
Your Waipara Wine Tour includes your hotel/motel pick-up, visits to 4 wineries, wine tastings, (more than 20 wines available for tasting), winery lunch platter, tea or coffee and informative commentary.
Tour duration: 5.5 hours (approx).
Departure time: 12.30 pm. Returning approx 6.00pm.
Cost: $98per person.
