|AWOL Canyoning. Challenge your senses with one of these back-to-nature adrenalin rushes, these trips have it all!|
The Piha Canyon is set in an amazing steep-sided volcanic rock valley, providing a spectacular setting for your adventure with a series of thundering waterfalls that cascade their way down the valley towards the ocean. This canyon has the highest commercially abseiled waterfall in the Auckland region (available on full day trip), various jumps and caves, and an intense narrow slot canyon abseil as well as idyllic natural rock pools.
All the caves and jumps are optional... you choose the level of adventure that's right for you! There is no-rush, you can explore at your own pace and have an adventure while gaining access to hidden pools and water sculptured gorges. This is an otherwise inaccessible environment that was last used by the pioneers as they worked the canyon 100 years ago, harvesting the mighty Kauri logs and flushing them from the hills via dam releases.
Following the trip we visit the Piha's famous black sand surf beach. One of the advantages of the Piha canyon is its good access, with only a 35 min walk in and 5 min downhill walk out from the end of the canyon, which means you will have time to relax at the beach or climb Lion Rock - that is, if you still have energy to burn after the trip!
Piha Full Day
Challenge your senses with a back-to-nature adrenalin rush, this trip has it all! We begin with a 35 minute walk through lush rainforest, where you begin your descent into the canyon with a series of abseils, the biggest and most exhilarating of which is 50m, before entering a narrow volcanic gorge, with its hidden pools, caves and jumps. Finish off with a visit to Piha's iconic black sands surf beach and Lion Rock.
Piha Half Day
This trip is an ultimate introduction to the excitement and beauty of canyoning, perfect for those on a tight schedule with flexible departure times. Ideal for big groups with varying skill and fitness levels.
Piha Night Canyoning
Experience nature's playground like never before with our night canyoning adventure. Arrive in Piha at dusk in time to see the sun setting. You enter into the canyon by abseiling under a cascading waterfall then explore your way down through caves, pools and ledges, illuminated only by the light of your headlamp and the glow-worm lined rock walls.
The Blue Canyon is situated in a hilly, rugged area of a rainforest of volcanic origin. For the most part it is densely clad in native forest, but to the west the ranges are bordered by the Tasman Sea, in a series of high sea cliffs and wild beaches. The Blue Canyon trip takes you to the heart of the Waitakere Ranges where you will get to experience New Zealand's beautiful native forest, and have the opportunity to see some of our native wildlife.
Make your trip as easy or as challenging as you wish, big jumps and slides are optional and you can control your own descent while abseiling or be lowered by a guide if you prefer.
Right from the start we will have you jumping into deep dark pools! The first half of the canyon is a great warm up with a variety of jumps and water slides. After the spectacular Jurassic Park abseil it's time for lunch and hot drinks. The second half of the trip has bigger jumps, slides and abseils. The Blue canyon is something not to be missed; it's a great day out that will definitely impress you and stay with you forever.
Blue Canyon Full Day Trip
This remote canyon is no stroll in the park! An invigorating 45 minute walk to the top, you won't be disappointed with 18 waterfalls, ranging from 2 to 30 meters, natural hydro-slides, and abseils that take you down showering waterfalls and some seriously awesome jumps. This non-stop action and adrenalin pumping trip makes it an experience not to be missed.
