Eco-themed tour with at least 9 ‘must-do-and-see’ experiences of West Auckland – the area where our family has lived since 1922. Hosted by local NZ-born operators. Plant your own tree on our farm to offset carbon emissions.
Our family has lived in the Muriwai area for over 80 years, so we know this region and its people extremely well. We love showing overseas visitors ‘our backyard’, and also welcome you to our sheep farm and inside our historical Homestead. This is a very unique tour to do in Auckland, being more than just a sightseeing trip - it’s an experience of kiwi-lifestyle at its very best!
‘Exclusive Experiences’ (full and half day tours) are available for VIP guests.
Everything is provided on the tour:
* Pick-up (inner city) at 9.30am and Drop-off at approx 6pm * Lunch (with wine) at a local café. (-a BBQ at our Homestead for large groups.) * Afternoon tea inside our home. * All entry fees; (Arataki Visitor Centre, wine and honey sampling, gannet colony) * Full commentary and guiding (and lots of personalized service!) * and, we also carry coats.
After pick-up, our first stop is the Arataki Visitor Centre. Be guided (unlike many other tours) around the centre to see and learn some very interesting aspects on NZ flora and fauna.
At 450m above sea level we point out features in the surrounding countryside.
Next, travel through the Scenic Drive to Westgate Shopping Centre and a 100% NZ craft shop. ‘Craftworld’ is a supermarket-like store with every type of craft imaginable.
We stop at a local café for lunch, and then go wine-tasting at an award winning winery.
Enjoy honey-sampling at ‘BeesOnline’ organic honey centre and then travel to Muriwai Beach, out on Auckland’s West Coast. Here you’ll see spectacular rugged views of this black iron-sand beach.
We take a gentle walk (again, fully guided), out to see the Takapu (gannet) colony that 1.3 million people visit this every year! Our tour visits here on EVERY tour.
Just 7 minutes from the beach is our sheep farm which has been in our family since 1922. Here, you can have a ‘hands-on’ experience with our pet sheep and lambs. Enjoy seeing and learning about our other animals and birds.
We’ll show you through our woolshed, (built in the 1930’s), where there is a wool display. You’ll also have the chance to talk to REAL farmers when we bring you into our Homestead for a traditional homemade afternoon tea.
Compliment your day by "Helping the Planet"
While at our farm, you will have the opportunity to choose, purchase and plant your own Native tree from our nursery to offset the carbon emissions from the 200km round-trip tour. Your tree will be tagged, and it will go in our farm’s forest reserve where it will be protected for perpetuity. You will get a certificate and see your tree’s progress reports on our website.
Price (inc Gst) $178 per Adult Child (under 12) $89.
Children under 5 years old are free of charge.
