Bastion Point, at the west end of Mission Bay, offers a fantastic view over the entrance to the Waitemata Harbour and was used for the defence of Maori settlers and in later times, ofAuckland City. Mission Bay is also known for its famous fountain, pictured above, which is located in the middle of the Mission Bay reserve, sending water as high as 12 metres into the air and was a gift to the city from the family of Sir Ernest Davis, a previous mayor of Auckland.
