Kia Ora, welcome to Milestone Tours' Auckland Adventure. Just 40 minutes from downtown Auckland, this day tour takes in the rainforests of the Waitakere Ranges and the west's wild, surf-pounded black-sand beaches, before discovering more 'civilised' wine country, and the North Shore's prettiest historical quarter. The Tour Auckland is famous for its volcanic landscape. So our tour begins at the crown of now extinct Maungawhau (Mt Eden). It's here we first spy the landmarks that this tour will encompass: including two sparkling harbours (Waitemata and Manukau), the bush-clad Waitakere Ranges to the west, and Mt Victoria and North Head, standing guard over picturesque Devonport. Heading west, we encounter the Waitakere Ranges: an ecological treasure abundant with natural and human history, discovered beneath its lush cloak of 16,000 hectares of rainforest. We follow a freshwater stream to a cascading 3-tiered waterfall, where your guide shares their extensive knowledge of native fauna and flora, and you'll have the chance to plunge under the clear, clean waters of the falls, or simply enjoy the shade. Feel the sand between your toes as we walk on one of the west coast's famous untamed beaches; magnets to surfers, photographers and seekers of nature at its most wild and exciting. You'll then feel dwarfed by a towering, ancient kauri tree, before taking in uninterrupted views of the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean. Descending into gentler country, where Dalmatian settlers first planted the vines that would produce acclaimed 'new world' wines - you can sample direct from the 'cellar door' and discover winemaking secrets from the source. We close our journey's circle from another of Auckland's iconic volcanoes, as the sun slips behind the Waitakeres and the city lights begin to twinkle.
