We provide a unique Kiwi experience and offer comfortable budget accommodation for backpackers & tourists. An ideal stop-over for individuals and groups on working holidays, as seasonal work can be arranged. Te Puke is one of NZ's best locations in the Bay of Plenty. We are Intercity & Stray Bus Agents, and we can book local activities. Friendly people with which to share your time and visit some of the local attractions. We are conveniently located - only 5 minutes' walk to town, supermarkets, banks, cinema and bus stop. Close to Mt Maunganui, Tauranga, and Rotorua only a short drive away. There is a wide selection of stunning beaches to choose here in the Bay of Plenty: Papamoa Beach, Mount Maunganui, Maketu, and Waihi Beach (to name only a few!). Facilities If transport is an issue we offer shuttle services for summer fun in the Tauranga & Mount Maunganui area. In house we offer plenty of off-road parking, 24 hour internet, onsite shop, BBQs, mountain bike hire & guest car, tenting spaces and a recreation room, where you can shoot some pool on the pool table or enjoy the odd party. Common facilities such as cooking, washing machine and bathroom use are included in the rates. Clothes drying is $2 coin op or use washing lines provided. We have a surveillance system operating for additional safety & security. Internet is setup for most countries. Rates We are a BBH member Backpacker Hostel and can offer great rates for accommodation from $25 p/p per night in shared dorm rooms, or from $28 p/p per night in private double & twin rooms where you share kitchen, bathroom & laundry with up to say 6 other people. SPECIAL OFFERS There are special offers where you could get a WEEK FREE (conditions apply so do ask us more); this is available for people staying and paying 28 days in advance, basically pay for FOUR WEEKS and GET the FIFTH WEEK absolutely FREE!!!! SEASONAL WORK As for the work, we do not employ staff ourselves; instead we help workers find jobs by networking with employers in the area seeking staff. Transport and training can be also arranged if required. We can generally place people in work within a day or so of arriving. Hairy Berry is an associate member of the kiwifruit contractors association - we refer people to trustworthy employers who are expected to be paying good rates (at least minimum pay, sometimes more) and all taxes paid directly to IRD. Workers are expected to have valid working permits, working holiday visa etc, an IRD number (we can fast-track IRD numbers back in 1-2 days) and a bank account, and be prepared to work 1-3 months. Most of the work in this area is seasonal kiwifruit work. Kiwifruit work is available in the Te Puke area for about 10 months of the year. October through til Feb-March for summer pruning (kiwifruit), then on to picking and packing work which begins in April, and later winter pruning which begins in July and lasts until the end of September. | ||||||
