Welcome to Rangimarie Bush Retreat. We offer two accommodation options: Tawa Lodge and Totara Cabin. Two unique accommodation experiences within a stunning setting. Nearby attractions are the Waitomo Caves, Kawhia Beach hot pools, Otorahanga Kiwi House, Maungatautari Ecological Reserve and options for tramping through the many reserves. Set in 35 acres of bush-clad hill, a stony bottom river runs through the property that many a good-sized brown trout has been caught in. Trout fishing is available to those with a licence and equipment. Domestic animals, grazing the lush green paddocks, produce milk, eggs and meat for the household. A large veggie garden by the river supplies most of the needs also. There is a large bath enclosed on three sides overlooking the river and set amongst the bush, a magical experience that will be available to guests if they so wish. Tawa Lodge Tawa Lodge is perfect for those looking for a little bit of luxury within a beautiful, tranquil setting. The guest accommodation is a well-appointed queen size bedroom with a private deck overlooking the river. Tawa Lodge was designed by Rowena to capture the view and make the most of the sun. It sits well in its bush setting looking very much like a treehouse. It is an eco house in that it was built making the most of native timber from the property using solar panels and a wetback system to heat the hot water and the home itself. Most of the cooking is done on the woodstove.
Totora Cabin is a self-contained cabin that features a well-appointed kitchen, washing machine, a queen size bed, a futon couch that folds for a extra bed, and a cute little potbelly stove for the chilly days. The outdoor shower is very private and is a great experience.
Your host Rowena is happy to help with booking or advising on the many attractions near to Rangimarie Bush Retreat. Visit the Waitomo Glow Worms caves, visited by over 2 million visitors a year. There are a lot of bush reserves in the area with good walking tracks through them that are available for public use at anytime. Pirongia mountain dominates the area and has alot of walks that can be enjoyed. The black sands of the west coast are unique, and at low tide a spade is all that is required to reveal the hotwater in the sand at Kawhia Beach. Relaxing in one's own pool is an experience many of the visitors to Rangimarie have really enjoyed. Maungatautari Ecological Reserve. This mountain has been pest proofed to protect the native flora and wildlife. It is extensively tracked for the public to enjoy the bush as it was in pre-European times. | |||||||||
