Overlooking Halfmoon Bay and the islands of Foveaux Straits is Sails Ashore, a warm, relaxing Bed and Breakfast on New Zealands own eco-adventure island - Stewart Island. "Rakiura", the Maori name for this ecologically diverse island, means "Land of the glowing skies", and you will learn why! Enjoy the virgin forests, pristine Ulva Island, deserted beaches and undisturbed bird and marine life during the day, unwind in the glory of the setting southern sun in the evening and if the fates are smiling, witness the spectacular Aurora Australis, the beautful Southern Lights.

We chose the name "Sails Ashore" to reflect the close relationship the Island enjoys with the sea. It is a short 4 minute stroll to the village waterfront of Oban, the main village on the island.

Our two guest suites open directly onto the sun and dining room, with views over the garden, village and wharf to the open sea beyond. They were designed by award winning architect Paul Clarke, Crossens & Clarke, and built by craftsman builder Findlay McCrostie.

Completed in December 2004, each suite has its own exterior access, ensuite facilities and original local art.
