Waiau Motor Camp and Backpackers is located on the Alpine Pacific Scenic Highway in the South Island of New Zealand. It is just 30 minutes from "Hanmer Springs Thermal Resort", 1 hours drive to Kaikoura, and only 15 minutes drive to the ski field at Mt Lyford, making it the perfect base for for your skiing trip.
Waiau provides a friendly safe and relaxing holiday venue which is an easy drive from Christchurch and the surrounding area's. The Waiau river is famous for it's salmon and trout fishing. The local golf course is situated approximately 5 k's from town. Mt Lyford ski field, ice skating and horse trekking are approximately 15 minutes drive from the motor camp.
Ski at My Lyford
Waiau Motor Camp is the ideal place to stay when you are skiing at Mt Lyford, one of the cheapest ski fields in New Zealand. Mt Lyford has one of New Zealands's largest learner areas, a fantastic Wild Ride Terrain Park, full hire facilities and an excellent cafe and restaurant.
Accommodation
Waiau Motor Camp is a family run camp and has a range of accommodation options including 16 powered sites, 30 non powered sites and 12 rooms which sleep 2 to 4 people. 3 of the rooms are double bedrooms with an internal door to the adjoining bunk room.
- Double Rooms The double rooms are equipped with made up double bed, couches and are complete with fridge and tea coffee making facilities. All the double bedrooms have internal doors to the adjoining bunk room. 1 of the double bedrooms also has a fold out sofa bed.
- Bunk Rooms Bunk rooms are equipped with a set of bunks made up with sheets, blankets, pillows, duvets and towels. Communal kitchen, dining room and TV lounge. 3 of the bunk rooms have an internal door to the adjoining double bedroom.
Facilities
Waiau Motor Camp is wheelchair accessible. We also provide a fully equipped communal kitchen with fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster and all other normal kitchenware. We also have a Dining room / TV lounge, playground, separate toilet and shower facilities, coin operated washing machine and dryer, BBQ, camp store & dump station. Pets are welcome by prior arrangement (dogs to kept tied up at all times).
Cut lunches and cooked meals are available on request (24 hours notice required).Dinner and desert $15.00 per person, morning tea, cut lunch and afternoon tea $15.00 per person.
We provide a storage area for caravans / motorhomes / boats at a cost of $5.00 per week.
