Rosewood is a beautifully restored character Bed & Breakfast close to the centre of Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island, New Zealand. With 5 spacious, individually furnished rooms (3 with ensuite bathrooms), private lounge/dining room, and quiet gardens Rosewood is ideally situated for holiday makers, small groups of friends and business people. Rosewood is only 10-15 minutes walk from the centre of Greymouth with its cafes, restaurants, shops and galleries.
Rosewood was built around the early 1920's as a Gentleman's residence. Native timbers were used extensively throughout this grand old character home, with wood panelling in the entrance hallway and lead light windows.
Today Rosewood has retained these features combining modern luxuries such as ensuite bathrooms in 3 rooms (one with facilities for the disabled) and a huge guest share bathroom for the remaining 2 rooms, tasteful furnishings with top quality King and Queen sized beds (cotton linen, your choice of pillows, cosy duvets and extra woollen blankets). There is Off-street parking to the rear and Wheelchair access.
Rosewood offers a relaxed atmosphere and you are invited to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with a home-made biscuit while you unwind from your travels and activities of the day sitting in the bay window, at our rimu table or on the couch in the Guest lounge with a newspaper or a book or magazine from the bookcase.
Breakfast is a choice of cereals, fresh orange juice, yoghurt, fresh and preserved fruit, toast or Rhonda's fresh bread rolls or coissants served with a choice of preserves and honey's plus a great selection of teas or coffee. We also offer cooked breakfasts beautifully presented by Stephan with free range eggs (cooked how you like them) with bacon and tomato to give you a great start to the day.
We are very proud to be the owners of Rosewood in such a fantastic part of New Zealand. After living in the middle of Germany where its 6 hours to either the sea or the mountains, we really appreciate being here on the West Coast with its dense bush, the mountains, the ocean and the wonderful sunsets on our doorstep.
Rosewood is the ideal base from which to explore the West Coast which is a must for any traveller in New Zealand or for those just wanting to experience something different while having a few days away from it all. The West Coast offers an abundance of unspoiled scenic walkways and rivers, rugged beaches, rain forests and glaciers, the Pancake Rocks, as well as 5 National Parks and one World Heritage Area. Greymouth is also the terminus for the world famous TranzAlpine train from Christchurch across the Southern Alps. We also offer a Courtesy Pick up from the Station or bus terminal.
Greymouth hosts an enticing range of activities only minutes from the town centre, including the Art Gallery, History House and the walk on the flood wall which protects the town from the mighty Grey River.
Float through underground streams on a cave rafting adventure. View Hectors dolphins, bird nesting sites and fur seals on an Ocean Boat Tour or take a horse trek or an off road Adventure amongst the hauntingly beautiful rain forest. Check out the craft people in their own environment or catch the wonderful sunsets from the beach. For an experience of early West Coast life visit Shantytown where you too can successfully pan for gold.
