Cedar House is a two-storeyed, Edwardian mansion originally built in 1909 for a prominent Gisborne family, and now transformed into Gisborne's leading bed and breakfast inn. Cedar House is an historic character home set in a desirable residential neighbourhood providing a warm relaxed atmosphere combined with friendly attentive service - a refreshing change from the typical hotel or motel.
Cedar House is within easy walking distance of the central business district, shopping, cinema, restaurants & bars, museum, galleries, parks and the rivers.
Sadly neglected over the previous 30 years, from 1999 Cedar House has enjoyed an on-going programme of renovation designed to restore the original grand style, while incorporating the modern comforts and safety features expected by today's traveller. The refurbishment highlights the extensive use of native (kauri, rimu and matai) timbers, the 3-metre-plus ceilings and lead-light windows.
Accommodation
We are proud to offer spacious guest rooms with comfortable superking or twin king single beds, a separate guest lounge, complimentary refreshments, and bountiful breakfasts.
Kauri Room Spacious, ground floor room with executive quality linen, cotton robes, T.V. and with own Ensuite. Entrance to large deck and swimming pool. This room has disabled facilities.
Nikau Room Spacious, second floor room with executive quality linen, cotton robes, T.V. and with large Ensuite. Included is a large corner spa bath. Access to balcony with great views.
Rimu Room Spacious, second floor room with executive quality linen, cotton robes, T.V. and private bathroom with spa bath. Super King size bed can be seperated into two king singles for those who prefer twin bed sleeping.
The Pool House A spacious self contained room opening directly onto the pool, private bathroom, kitchen facilities, microwave, Sky TV and DVD player.
Facilities
Upon arrangement our large entrance foyer with seperate lounge and dining room can be booked for that special meeting, corporate function, corporate retreat, or special family gathering.
We are happy to meet guests at the bus terminal or airport and provide complimentary transport to Cedar House, or vice versa. For more than 3 guests at a time we will book a taxi-van on guests behalf if required.
