The Cottage
Elegantly furnished to a very high standard, the cottage is fully self contained with modern amenities.
There is one double bedroom with French doors opening onto a woden deck, a second bedroom with two single beds, kitchen, washing machine, bathroom with shower and bath, separate sitting room with wood burner, and veranda.
Guests may also use the wonderful outdoor pool in the summer months to ease the heat of the glorious North Canterbury sunshine.
If you are looking for a home away from home during your stay in New Zealand or if you are looking for a great base in an environment within reach of some of New Zealands most beautiful locales, then Pahau Downs is perfect. For those wishing to unwind, relax and indulge, Hamner Springs has natural thermal pools and a luxurious spa complex with a variety of treatments from massage to hot stone therapy.
Or spend countless hours wandering the farm or enjoy an organised farm tour. There are also many of the local hikes. If you have an adventurous soul, bring the mountain bikes and head to Lake Sumner Forest Park, or go bungy jumping at the Hamner Springs Bridge. Plenty of activities to fill the days - in fact there is so much to do from Pahau Downs, you will want to extend your stay!
The Region
Culverden is sixty minutes from Christchurch. Just off state Highway seven, which is the route to the West Coast over the Lewis Pass. It is ideally situated for a base for fishing locally, duck shooting or visiting Hanmer Springs, Kaikoura and Waipara. There are three golf courses Culverden, Amuri, and Hanmer. Skiing in winter and horse trekking is also available near-by.
Hanmer is an alpine village with hot springs and thermal pools. There are also a number of fun activities abvailable in this Alpine Playground.
Waipara is fast becoming one of New Zealands premier wine growing environments. There are several vineyards that are developing an international reputation for their array of wines.
Kaikoura is renowned for its whale watching activity but is also a picturesque village nestled between the splendid Kaikoura Mountain range and the sometimes wild, but always spectacular Pacific Ocean.
