A luxury bed and breakfast experience in Cambridge, New Zealand. Built in 1902 and originally named Orongo, Thornton House is a central Cambridge landmark with a Historic Places trust classification. It has been luxuriously renovated to enhance not only its Victorian elegance but also modern comforts and conveniences. Thornton House has been rated 4 stars plus by Qualmark, New Zealand's rating agency, one of the highest achieved by a bed and breakfast in the Waikato region. The two guest rooms, both with ensuites, are situated at one end of the house with our living space at the other. Both rooms reflect an English country theme with William Morris fabrics and wallpapers, an eclectic mix of antique and contemporary furniture and local original art. The Blue Room is romantic and inviting, the focal point being its antique brass bed. The Garden Room is a large, elegant room which opens onto a veranda overlooking the garden. It has a queen and single bed and a large (big enough for two) clawfoot bath. Extra blankets and heaters, fresh flowers, television, a CD player, central heating, and the latest life style magazines enhance your comfort. Each room has a sumptuous Queen bed with feather pillows and duvet, Egyptian cotton linen, mohair throws, reading lights and electric blankets. The ensuites feature walk-in showers, heated towel rails, hair driers, thick fluffy towels, luxurious bath robes and a range of toiletries. Outside the rooms there is a refreshment cabinet for your convenience with a range of complimentary teas and coffees and, of course, home made biscuits. Every morning we serve a memorable gourmet breakfast either in your room, in the dining area or alfresco in the garden. On occasions we provide a lunch, picnic basket or evening meal by negotiation. Alternatively, there are local restaurants and cafes within easy walking distance. Relax in our secluded formal garden, enjoying the gazebo and an abundance of roses throughout summer. Enjoy with us complimentary hors d'oeuvres and local wines. Treat yourself with a relaxation massage by your host Christine, who is trained in relaxtion massage. Just across the road is Lake Te Koutu, a natural lake with good walking paths, wonderful trees and abundant bird life. Take a ten minute stroll into the town centre for antiques, arts and crafts, local museum and a range of speciality shops, restaurants and cafes. Room rates from $195 to $270 | ||||||
