Come and stay at the Great Ponsonby, a delightful small hotel providing bed & breakfast in Auckland. Just two minutes stroll to Ponsonby's vibrant cafés, bistros, restaurants, art and craft galleries and just five minutes by taxi to the harbour and the city centre. Great Ponsonby is Qualmark 4 star plus guest and hosted and Enviro Gold status. Our breakfasts are legendary - friendships have been forged in the dining room, egg benedict lingered over on the verandah. Guest Accommodation The Great Ponsonby has eleven rooms of varying size and price. All rooms have everything you could need, and all have modern New Zealand and Pacific artworks. Courtyard studios are much bigger than the villas and the spacious suites and penthouse are over twice as large again. Our sitting room is a place to read, listen to our extensive CD collection or have a drink with friends. There is no TV - the TVs are watched in the privacy of your own room. We also have an extensive collection of mainly NZ films. Ponsonby Ponsonby, an urban village, is one of the earliest areas of Auckland and luckily many of the historic buildings still remain. It is also the trendiest part of town, a place where Aucklanders come to eat, to drink coffee (coffee making is an art form in Ponsonby) and to have fun. It is also very close to the city centre. So, the Great Ponsonby, set in a large, beautiful garden is in the most perfect place from which to explore Auckland. Sustainability Your hosts Sally and Gerry have been committed to the environment and heritage buildings most of their lives. They are active in the community and have been involved, and sometimes instrumental, in saving heritage buildings in their community. They are passionate about sustainability and work actively within the Tourism industry to define and implement the necessary conditions for promoting sustainable tourism. Great Ponsonby was the first accommodation provider in NZ to extensively use eco-products for guest amenities, laundry and for cleaning and the first Guest & Hosted to achieve an Enviro Gold award. Why stay at the Great Ponsonby? Unless our guests want to be alone, we make a point of introducing people to each other so there is a lot of swapping stories over a drink or breakfast. We also spend a lot of time helping our guests make the most of their time in our wee corner of New Zealand as well as the rest of the country. We are passionate about hospitality.
