Villa Cornucopia is an historic villa providing boutique luxury bed and breakfast accommodation within easy driving distance of Tauranga and just 10-15 minutes to Waihi Beach, Waihi and Katikati. Nestled in the quiet Bay of Plenty seaside village of Athenree, Villa Cornucopia is a place where you can escape the bustle, rest, recharge, and enjoy the good things of life.
For it's outstanding restoration and renovation, Villa Cornucopia recently won the Gold Award in the Renovation Category at the 2008 Master Builders Awards, Bay of Plenty and will be entered in the NZ Awards in Auckland in October.
The villa is situated in a beautiful garden with views of the Pacific Ocean. Stroll under the giant oak and explore gardens and paths created by an award-winning landscape designer, Trish Waugh, a gold medal award winner at the Chelsea Flower Show.
An old almond tree, showing beautiful pink blossom in spring, yields a full harvest of almonds each year. Other trees include grapefruit, feijoa, apple, pear, persimmon, macadamia, lemon and lime. You may see the Kereru (native wood pigeon) and other native birds eating berries as you wander by.
Inside, you can relax in the library or lounge, surrounded by antiques, collectables and artworks, while you enjoy a glass of wine. Let us provide sumptuous gourmet breakfasts, brunches, lunches and dinners (by arrangement). Then spend the night in one of our luxurious bedroom suites.
Facilities
Villa Cornucopia offers four beautiful suites, each decorated in a distinctive style, with a full complement of modern amenities including LCD televisions and built-in sound systems in each room.
The suites have luxurious décor with sumptuous fabrics, unique antiques and artworks. All suites feature en suite bathrooms. Choose a room with a view of the garden or expansive views out to the ocean.
Villa Cornucopia provides everything you need for a peaceful retreat. It is the ideal place to stay on a romantic weekend, or somewhere for you and a few close friends to come and spoil yourselves in luxury.
The grounds are available as a wedding location. If you are planning an intimate, romantic wedding why not have your ceremony at Villa Cornucopia too? The stunning landscaped gardens are perfect for wedding photos and we can arrange catering for up to 30 guests for a memorable wedding reception. We also offer a romantic accommodation package for two.
Things to Do
Villa Cornucopia is just 10 minutes drive to Waihi Beach, a stunning ocean beach, offering nearly nine kilometres of sweeping white sand, and ten minutes walk from Villa Cornucopia you can relax in the Athenree Hot Pools. Alternatively, drive 20 minutes to the Sapphire Springs, set in beautiful bush and forest at the foot of the Kaimai Ranges and enjoy the warm thermal pools or a private spa. Villa Cornucopia is also the perfect stop-over or base for exploring the Coromandel Peninsula.
The Athenree and Katikati area has an incredible range of restaurants, cafés and eateries,or,by special request, Villa Cornucopia can provide you with a memorable dinner in the beautiful formal dining room. Your meal will be cooked with the finest local and organic produce.
Your Host
Cheryl Munro is your host at Villa Cornucopia. As well as extending a warm welcome to her guests, Cheryl lovingly owns and maintains the villa. For many years, she has been interested in architecture and historic buildings. That interest became a passion through the restoration of the villa. Her other interests, including stained glass window making, interior decorating, landscaping and gardening also shine through. Her extensive travels have lent international sophistication to the décor of the house.
